Concatenation - This is a mechanism that provides continuous bandwidth through a network for transporting a payload associated with a "superrate service" such as SONET or SDH. The set of bits in the payload is treated as a single entity and accepted, multiplexed, switched, transported, and delivered as a single piece of data. Applications that might use concatenation include bandwidth-intensive video such as HDTV and full motion video.  Concatenation also refers to the act of linking together two or more objects and/or systems to improve something.
