Digital HDTV Grand Alliance – (a.k.a. Grand Alliance, Digital Grand Alliance) - Formed in May 1993, the Grand Alliance was/is comprised of a number of American entities.  Its aim was to produce "the best of the best" initially proposed HDTV systems. The participants were: AT&T, General Instrument Corporation, MIT, Philips Consumer Electronics, Zenith Electronics Corporation, David Sarnoff Research Center and Thomson Consumer Electronics. The format the Grand Alliance proposed is known as the ATSC format.
