MHP - (Multimedia Home Platform) – MHP is platform for interactive television and more. MHP includes a set of middleware specifications and return path (return channel, back channel) standards. Multimedia Home Platform is an open middleware system standard designed by the DVB project for interactive digital television. The MHP enables the reception and execution of interactive, Java-based applications. Interactive TV applications can be delivered over a broadcast channel, together with audio and video streams. These applications might include information services, games, interactive voting, e-mail, SMS or shopping. For all interactive applications, an additional return path is needed. MHP can support many content types, not just HTML/JavaScript. It's already been demonstrated across a range of set-top boxes, operating systems, and hardware platforms.

Panasonic, OpenTV and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd were early users of this technology.
