Modulation - Modulation is the process by which the signal is transformed into data that a device can understand. The video, audio and other data is mixed when sent over a network. Often this includes compressing the data.  Radio uses two types of modulation - Amplitude Modulation (AM) and Frequency Modulation (FM) for mixing audio signals with an AM or FM carrier signal.  "Demodulation" is the opposite.  Three types of digital modulation are Quadrature Phrase Shift Keying, Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) and Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing.
