Americast - An early major Interactive TV project. A $500-million partnership launched in March 1995 by The Walt Disney Co., Ameritech, BellSouth Corp., GTE Corp., SBC (Southwestern Bell), and later included SNET (Southern New England Telephone Co.)
Americast had signed a letter of commitment to spend $1 billion for 3 million Zenith set-top boxes.
The plan was for Americast mainly to compete with Cable TV providers.
