Gateway - A gateway refers to hardware and/or software that
bridges the gap between two otherwise incompatible products,
applications and/or networks. Multimedia
Gateways make it possible for data to be transferred
among different computers,
devices and terminals. A multimedia gateway is a gateway which transcodes
audio, video, control and data across possibly incompatible devices and
networks. This incompatibility can occur due to differences in
standards,
formats, specifications etc. See Media
