SVOD over a DVR Device – (Subscription Video on Demand over a Digital Video Recorder. Maybe known as PVR-enhanced VOD. Associated with Network Personal Video Recording, nPVR.)

SVOD over a DVR Device is a name sometimes used for direct broadcast satellite’s (DBS) competitive response to server-based Subscription Video on Demand programming packages from digital cable and other TV providers. As DBS customers often invest in the set-top box themselves, it can be less expensive for DBS to deploy SVOD. Satellite TV's video on demand is however limited by the hard drive capacity of the digital video receiver (or equivalent device) that the customer has.  Also DBS has a more difficult time simultaneously sending/receiving more than one video stream from/to the customer than does digital cable this being due to bandwidth restrictions.
